International window’s day was celebrated at Santiniketan Public School on 23 June 2019. The focus was to draw attention to the experiences of windows and to galvanize the unique support that they need.
The day commenced with the prayer song, which was followed by the inspirational speech of our High School coordinator Mrs. Aarthi. In her speech, she elucidated the pathetic condition of women in the world, who are stigmatized by the society. She also highlighted the exploitation and exclusion of women when their husbands die. She said that women need to have self-confidence and they should be able to act for themselves. Further, in her speech, she appealed to the students, who are brought up by single mothers to be more supportive and considerate towards their mothers.
Her speech was followed by honoring of Mrs.Easwari, who at her young age lost her husband and suffered social stigmatization and economic deprivation. Her sensitizing speech was really an eye opener for all the students.
Preethi of std IX shed light on the importance of the day, which is to develop resources and policy to empower windows and to enable them to create life for themselves and their children. The students of STD IX honored Mrs.Easwari with mementos.
