Santiniketan Public School has celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8, 2019. To mark the literary day, specific events were held at school on subsequent days. The children were motivated to participate in the event by donating a book to the underprivileged children. The celebration of literacy continues till 15th of September.
During the literacy week, bilingual reading materials and reference materials were shared with the children. The students were asked to bring a story book of their interest and were asked to exchange with their friends. Classroom reading corners focused on making a class library and thus developing an interest in reading among the students.
The students were encouraged to make a ‘book-buddy’ where they were paired together and present the findings of their newly read book in the class. The children were also asked to review a book based on their interest.
A read – a – thon was arranged in the class to find the fastest reader of the class. A book fair was organized to inspire the students and teachers to read more and bring literacy to the community.
