Our School celebrated Zoonoses day on 6 July 2019. ‘Zoonotic’ means infectious diseases that are spread between animals and people. Many children interact with animals in their daily lives, both at home and away from home. Pets offer good companionship and entertainment. However, some animals can carry harmful germs that can cause illness. The focus of this day was to create awareness of such diseases among students. This day commenced with the speech of Mrs. Raja Vidhya. In her speech she highlighted the benefits of raising children with pets.
A positive relationships with pets can help in valuing relationships and also develops the quality of empathizing and compassion in children. She also threw light on how children should provide a healthy environment for their pets and also how they should protect themselves and reduce the risk of zoonotic diseases, by washing lands before and after touching animals, managing feces, using flea and ticks preventives, vaccinating them regularly.
Few children brought their pets. The entire middle block looked like a little zoo. There was a cute little Pomeranian, who enjoyed the most attention. Children brought gold fish, Cockatoo, Rabbits, Lovebirds, and Finches. Live demonstration was given on cleaning lands. On the whole the students had a field day petting and cuddling all the animals.
